The combat- and game mechanics are a matter of personal preference, of course I wouldn't mind playing the TW1 campaign with the TW2 combat, but I like them both in very different ways. I still find TW1 to be one of the most gorgeous games ever made.

The artistic direction is superb and the Aurora engine's restrictions were brilliantly bypassed in the making of the game. Lastly, to reiterate what Pham wrote, TW1 looks amazing, even today. Add to that the legal issues involved, and you have an almost guaranteed no-go for this to ever be done 'by the community'.ĬDPR received the question whether or not they have considered doing this, themselves, and while they say it's most definitely something they could do, it would mean a lot of time and resources spent on such a project time and resources they would much rather spend on making a new game, Witcher-related or otherwise. Definitely doable if you have access to the tool-kit (which CDPR still plans to release to the public, eventually), but it would take an extremely long time to do so, especially if done by just a small group of modders. It would involve re-creating the entire game from ground up, using the new engine.
